Ok so here is my first try at fondant. A lady from Jason's work had been looking for a cake for her niece for a graduation party. They had a terrible time trying to find someone who could do something for them. She asked me earlier this week and this is what it turned out like. They were very happy with it and I was pleased I didn't screw it up. I've never done fondant so I was a bit worried about getting it a true black and how to pull off a grad cap. I think it turned out pretty good for a first timer. The one lady said it looked better than the cakes they saw at walmart and a cake decorator in Jonesboro that were similar but with butter cream icing. Maybe this will be my new business. Fondant is expensive so these cakes don't come cheap;) I have another cake I'm doing for another lady next week. She wants a candy train (I'd done one for an fundraiser auction a few years ago.) The traincars are cake and then topped with candy, animal crackers, licorice tracks and more. I may just try the fondant on this one too:)

Note to all: three of my kids are sick today with fevers, Sarah was so sick last night I stayed up with her trying to bring down her fever. She'd had two different meds and it was still 104.9, Needless to say, it wasn't a good night. She had a blessing and after an hour working to cool her down she was finally at 102 so I put her back in bed and went to sleep myself. Of course I had to redose everyone four hours later so I didn't get much sleep, but Colton watched them while I slept on the couch this morning. Jason and Whitney went to church, had to pick up two separate riders so he had to leave by 7:45 this morning. I guess we are in for a wonderful day.

your cake looks awesome mels..I have seen some cake shows where they use fondant..I have always liked the clean lines, and professional look of it- you did a great job. I think it's an awesome business to get into, and people make good money from it.

I'm very sorry to hear about the fevers. That's worrysome about 104 temp. I hope everyone is recovering from it, and not getting worse- including yourself without alot of sleep. Wish I were there to help you :)

i'm about to finish the picture project. so you should have an email soon...
love you

Super cute cake!

I still prefer frosting, but fondant definitely has it's place! (Of course, people aren't asking me to make cakes for them so keep it going!!! You rock!)

(I used pre-made fondant too. Was it hard to make???)

BEAUTIFUL! Your graduation cake is so cute!! I wonder if you can make fondant? It'd be cheaper maybe? Did you flavor the fondant? I made a cake with it once and the fondant I bought was so gross tasting! I had no idea I was suppose to flavor it! The cake was for my Mom's birthday, kinda sad cause it wasn't good at all!! :)

Your cake looks delicious!

The cake looks great! Sorry you have sick kids. It's really rough when more than one is sick at the same time. :)
